Tharaka-Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki was yesterday lectured on the need to work with other elected leaders in order to spur development in the area. in a meeting held at Chuka DC ground meant to galvanize the BBI signature collection in the region, the leaders wondered why the governor has taken a lone wolf approach in matters of county development ignoring other elected leaders in the legion including the county assembly members. Embu governor Martin Wambora wondered why the governor had refused to allocate money for ward development in the county stating that even if it was not in the constitution, other governors in the region had allocated funds for ward development including in his own Embu county.
And as if in a signal of the tough challenge the governor will be facing in retaining his seat in the 2022 election, the agriculture cabinet secretary referred to Chuka Vice-chancellor Prof. Njoka as Governor Njoka during the meeting raising fury among the governor and his supporters. Without mincing their words, the residents of Chuka demanded to be addressed by the Chuka VC, Prof. Njoka and hailed him as the next govrnor of the County. Although he has not yet announced his candidature, it has for long been concluded that the hardworking and ambitious chuka VC will automatically vie for the gubernatorial seat in the county with pressure from the residents for him to vie and rescue the county from poor management. The VC has been hailed as one of the most ambitious leaders of the county after overseeing the transformation of a small technical college in Ndagani- Chuka to the fastest and best managed ubniversity in the country and east African legion.
In little under 10 years, the university has brought back the dying Chuka town to live again; and the VC has gone ahead to establish constituent campuses in Tharaka and Maara constituencies as well as foreseeing the establishment of a KMTC college in the region. the University is currently constructing a dam in the legion that will be able to sufficiently supply food and other agricultural products to the dry areas of the county.
The tharaka Nithi governor has been accused of dictatorship and failure to consider the views of the residents in development projects with the governor facing allegations corruption involving other county employees as well as his family members in swindling the county. He was recently arraigned in court with corruption charges.
Those in attendance include Kiraitu Murungi, Muthomi Njuki, Martin Wambora and Peter Munya as well as area members of parliament and mcas.
