Nominated senator Isaac Mwaura lost his senatorial seat today after the senate speaker Kenneth Lusaka declared the seat vacant in a gazette notice.

The serial nominee for representing people with disabilities had challenged the decision of the jubilee party to expel him from the party, and the national disciplinary committee of the jubilee party sending the embattled senator packing.

“It is notified for the information of the general public that pursuant to article 103 (I) (e) (i) of the constitution section 37 of the elections act, the seat of Member of senate… held by honorable Isaac Mwaura Maigua became vacant with effect from May 7, 2021,: ” read the notice.

Mwaura had moved to court under a certificate of urgency through his lawyers seeking orders to quash party’s decision which removed him from office.

The senator had also sought orders to be reinstated back to the Jubilee party register by the registrar of Political parties Ann Nderitu

Mwaura becomes the first casualty of the Jubilee party purge against disloyal members who the party has accused of supporting other parties.

Even as this happened, Mwaura still voted yes for the BBI bill, his last presence in the senate as a senator.
