Its Baba for President: Mount Kenya Foundation (MKF) endorses Raila Odinga’s 2022 presidential bid

After months of speculation on who their preferred candidate for the 2022 presidential election will be, The MKF has today formally endorsed the candidacy of retired Prime minister Raila Odinga for the 2022 presidential elections.

During a Luncheon held at the Safari Park hotel in Nairobi, the powerful group of the Who is who in the Mount Kenya region announced that after wide consultations including interviews with different 2022 presidential candidates, they had resolved that it is under a Raila Odinga presidency that the interests of the Mount Kenya region would be safe.

Through a document released to the media, the foundation announced that its decision was based on two key factors:

(i) Peace, Unity, and stability

(ii) Mount Kenya issues

On peace, unity, and stability, the foundation noted that the people of Mount Kenya had paid a heavy price over the years due to post-election violence. “Our people have been killed, hounded, persecuted, displaced, evicted and our property destroyed. ” further noting that it is the people of Mounk Kenya that have paid the heaviest price of politically instigated violence.

Further on this, the group opined that through the peace initiative championed by President Kenyatta and Raila Odinga, the country has enjoyed more peace and stability than ever before and thus resolved to support the continuity of peacebuilding by the president and the prime minister.

Regarding Mount Kenya issues, the foundation said that the candidate they support should be committed to ensuring equal representation of one man one vote. This, as addressed by the building bridges initiative; fair share of government resources, respect for property rights among others.

In that regard, the foundation resolved to support the Azimio la Umoja, as championed by Raila Odinga, quest for a united front to address key issues “affecting our region and country” among other issues.
