Motorists using Thika Supper Highway were on Friday morning caught up in a huge traffic snarl-up running all the way from Ngara to Githurai, leaving thousands of motorists and commuters stranded.

The traffic snarl-up was caused by an accident on the Thika Superhighway at Wangari Maathai Road just past shell petrol station Pagani.

According to police reports, a trailer overturned on Wangari Maathai Road in the wee hours of the morning.

“A concrete mixer truck overturned on Wangari Maathai road early Friday morning and completely blocked the highway and caused the traffic snarl-up. Two cranes were unable to remove the trailer and a third one was called it and managed to remove it at around 11am,” said the Nairobi traffic boss Joshua Omukata.

Trafdic was later rerouted to the CBD when the road became impassable.

Clearing the traffic took several hours but the traffic police managed to clear the traffic snarl-up past 11 am, Friday morning
