Construction of the Karimenu II dam in Kiambu county has finally been completed.
The project included the construction of a 59m high dam, construction of 70 million litres per day water treatment plant, laying of 67 km of raw and treated water transmission pipelines and construction of two concrete water storage tanks in Ruiru and Juja each with a total capacity of 28.5 million litres.
During a visit to the site, the dam is already filling with water and the laying of the 67km pipeline to Nairobi and its environment was underway
The project, which is a key vision 2030 project is meant to support around 900, 000 households in Kiambu and Nairobi.

The mega project sits on a 600 acre piece of land and its completion time was delayed due to land tussle between the land owners and the government.
The project was launched in 2017 and has been lauded by area Member of Parliament Wanjiku kibe as a milestone in transformation of the economic potential of the local community
