The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is seeking to amend the BBI draft bill once it is presented to parliament. ODM legislators want the formula that will be used to come up with the new constituencies changed so that the Luo Nyanza region can benefit more.

The 3 counties of Siaya, Homabay and Kisumu in Luo Nyanza have been allocated 3 constituencies

According the senate Minority leader James Orengo, ODM can’t be used just as a voting machine for BBI report with little benefits to its people.

ODM feels that the Mt. Kenya region will benefit more from the BBI, a move seen as a reward by Uhuru Kenyatta to his region in the long run as more resources will be devolved to the Mount Kenya region. The region is also expected to get the bulk of the new constituencies with over constituencies going to the Mount Kenya region once the BBI report goes through.

However, leaders allied to President Uhuru insist that the BBI report cannot be amended as it would open a Pandora box with several groups and individuals seeking to have the report amended.

The Justice and legal affairs committee has taken a 4-day retreat to finalize the report that is expected to be presented before parliament on the 1st of April.
